Gen-X combines two radically different coffees using the principle of complementary opposites. The result is a blend that amounts to more than the sum of its parts.
It's our take on an old classic (Mocha-Java) and a throwback to simpler times, when coffee tasted like coffee. You know, before tasting notes like frankincense, bergomot nectar, and white peach started showing up everywhere.
Gen-X is Ethiopia Buno Dambi Uddo, an intense, fruit-forward coffee, roasted light, combined with a darker roasted,a low-toned, chocolatey Java. Different coffees that work great together, one enhancing the other.
What's in a Name?
Lately I've been reflecting on the fact that Big Creek Coffee is officially a veteran of the so-called third wave coffee movement. It's just crazy how much things have changed in the last 15 years.
When Big Creek started, it was the only boutique roaster of meticulously sourced super-premium coffee within hundreds of miles.
Back then it was hard to find coffees of the quality we wanted to roast. There was zero instructional knowledge available on the internet for people trying to learn the craft of roasting.
Learning back then meant traveling to the big cities and mingling with seasoned craftspeople.
It makes me a bit nostalgic. On the one hand, it's important to monitor emerging trends in the industry, but on the other, I think most of it is just fluff created by newcomers to a saturated market trying to find relevance and stand out in a very crowded space.
I choose to embrace what I know and what I have lived. I come from a simpler time.
Bottled water came from France if you could find it, but most kids just drank hose water.
Bike helmets? Never heard of them.
A road trip meant digging out an atlas. You had to know how to read a map, but travel was more of an adventure because of it.
Simpler times.
